The hydro went out about 4 p.m. on Wednesday and didn’t come back on until Saturday at 7p.m. This after a wild thunderstorm that sent me and my better half scrambling to the root cellar. We thought it was a tornado. It happened sooo fast, like about 30 seconds. After it was over, there were trees down, lines down, no phone service. Being out in the country we have no running water, but we keep 5 gallon water cooler jugs stored for washing & such. We have fresh drinking water in 5 gallon jugs, a pump from the river to flush toilets and a generator for freezers, fridges & the occasional peek at TV. Lots of candles, coal oil lamps & a power thing they call “The Eliminator”. I read 2 books, all the flyers that came in the mail, a few cookbooks, filed my nails & painted my toenails, but no internet! I tried to nap but the sound of the generator killed that idea. You don’t know what you have until you don’t have it. All I can say is I’m glad it’s over and Larry was here to fill the generator and start the camp stove and barbeque!
Wow- how scary. Good thing you were prepared. That is one thing I always mean to do but never do. You sure dont know what you have until its gone.
